Heather Boylan Web Design and Development

My web projects run the gamut from html emails that require simpler coding techniques like tabular structure to web sites that can make full use of the more exciting dynamic technologies like Ajax, Javascript, and Flash. I have designed and coded entire websites and built modules and banners for use in existing sites. I also tailor content management systems and work with xml and databases so galleries and content can be easily managed.

Slides No. 2-8 The Seattle Design Center website. I coded this site with html, php, css, and ajax. It is meant to provide a visually rich experience and features many flash, jquery and javascript galleries. I also set-up the Facebook and Twitter page as an rss feed and assisted in the image selections for the site.

Slides No. 10-11 This site was for The Sterling Group. They are a "green" contractor and wanted a site with an eco-friendly tone in a web 2.0 style. They also wanted to have high search engine visibility and a content management system, so they could maintain the site themselves. Some of the features that increase SEO include designing with CSS, keyword–rich content, appropriate meta, title, link and h1-2-3 information, and clean organization of tags and images.

Slides No. 12-13 The Airway Metrics site was designed as a training site for a group of medical professionals. As such, it contains embedded video content on almost every page. The training videos are viewable on the site and available to download.

Slide No. 17 HTML Emails are similar to websites but because of the software used to render them, they require simplier coding techniques. It is one time when tables, and not css, should be used for structure. Any styling needs to be long style inline. Background images cannot be displayed by Outlook 2007, and javascript will be disabled so both should be avoided. Make sure any links (a tags) use the target="_blank" attribute or links will open in the webmail interface. Images must have alt, height and width attributes and it's a good idea to test your email with the images turned off as many email applications turn images off by default.
